Friendship Peak

Friendship Peak is situated in Beas Kund area of Pir Panjal range at an altitude of 5289m. It is an ideal non-technical trekking peak for those with limited or no mountaineering experience but requires good fitness. Surrounded by several other peaks like Hanuman Tibba, Shetidhar,Indra Asan and Deo Tibba offers spectacular panoramic views of the Pir Panjal and Dhauladhar ranges.

First drive to Solang by a taxi. From Solang to Dhundi moderate walk. Easy walk through the forest of Pine, Maple, Walnut, Silver fir and Oak. Then from Dhundi to Bakar thach is a leisurely walk of 2-3 hours. One can see high altitude flora and fauna while trekking through the meadows.We will set up our base camp in Bakar Thach. The following day hike towards ABC through lady leg through beautiful alpine flowers. Lady leg is a steep tiring stretch on the ABC ridge. Next morning get familiar with the use of your equipment and climb to summit camp. Learn the techniques and how to arrest a fall on the slope. Wake up early in the morning and after a quick bite get ready for the climb up to the summit. It’s best to be up at the summit early in the morning to make the best of the weather and get good views. At the summit one can see in the west of Dhundi the highest mountain of the Dhauladhar Mt. Hanuman Tibba 5940 m. is erected, on the east Deo Tibba 6001 m, and Indra Asan 6100 m. can be seen if the weather is in your favor.  Once Friendship peak is summated at 5394m., Descend down to the base camp. Next morning start to  Dhundi, the roadhead and drive back to Manali.

Trek LineUp:

Day 01:  Reach at Manali (2050m)

Documentation and other trek related preparation needed to be done on this day.

Day 02: Manali to Bakar Thach (3260m/10700ft.)

Drive Manali to Solang by any conveyance. Then the trek starts from Solang or from Dhundi depending of the availability of the transportation. The trek goes through conifer, oak and walnut trees to highland meadows of Bakar thach. The trail is comparatively moderate. At Bakar Thach one will be amazed to see the campsite surrounded by the mighty peaks, glaciers and moraines. Halt at the beautiful site in Bakar Thach.    

Day 03: Bakar Thach to advance ABC Lady Leg. (4572m/15000ft.)

Today trek to ABC, which is also called as lady leg. Initially the climb will be done on moraines then traverse through glacier field. First we trek to pristine Beas kund, then climb towards lady leg. Lady leg is the steep strenuous stretch just before the ABC ridge and is infamous for its difficulty. Reach at ABC, rest for a while then head for a acclimatization walk. Halt a night at ABC.     

Day 04: Move to Summit Camp and Recce of summit. (4815m/15800ft.)

Start early after healthy breakfast towards the summit camp. Get familiar with your gears, try learning some basic techniques of climbing a peak. While climbing do remember arrest a fall.  

Day 05: Summit Attempt (5290m/17353ft.)

We will start early morning as the day is full of adventures. An early start will help climb better on the snow, before it melts. It will take about 8 hours to reach the summit. One can celebrate the summit once reached at the top and have a glance over the mighty peaks of Pir Panjal and Dhauladhar Range. Spend some minutes at the top and climb down to the ABC.      

Day 06: Reserve day for Summit attempts and back to ABC.

The day would be reserved for any bad weather situation, which will interrupt or delay the summit attempt.    

Day 07: ABC to Bakar Thach

From ABC to Bakar thach would be an easy climb down to the valley via same route. Returning back to vegetation and civilization would give a pleasure to the climbers after an arduous trek. Night halt at Bakar Thach. 

Day 08: Bakar Thach to Solang Nala trek and back to Manali via Taxi.

Trek back from Bakar Thach to Solang Nala via same trail. Reach Manali and leave to your preferred destinations.

Friendship peak is located in the Manali region of Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. It is a challenging peak elevating 3600 m.
June to September anytime between one can do this expedition.
You have to approach at Manali. At here you will be met by our representatives and will be taken to further programs.
Friendship Peak is a challenging peak with unpredictable weather conditions. It is not for the first timers, yet it needs prior experience of high altitude trekking to get adapted better with the high altitude climbing. It demands a high level of physical fitness to conquer the peak.
As this is not a regular trekking, one needs to be physically and mentally fit for the climbing. One can do regular running for 10-15 km each day, do exercises, playing games like football, basketball and do yoga to increase your inner strength. Do breathing exercises which will help climbing high altitudes. You have to start doing all these activities to gain strength and endurance 2 months before the climbing. Stop smoking if you do.
The minimum age for the climbing starts from 18 years and the maximum age is 60 years.
Yes, it is absolutely safe for the girls to climb Friendship Peak. Several female climbers have successfully conquered the peak in our prior expeditions. So there is no worrying about the safety and integrity of a female. You can take part undoubtedly, because we take female security at our utmost.
The weather conditions may impact and vary the temperature during the climb. The temperature will be 15-20 degrees in the daytime and at nights it may drop to -10 degrees.
For this trek one has to carry multiple layers of clothing to avoid freezing cold and sickness. Down feather (2), waterproof jacket(1), fleece upper (2pair), woolen sweaters (1), woolen socks(3 pairs), Ponchu(1), socks(2pairs), underwear(3), gloves(1pair), thermals(1), dry fit shirts(3), dry fit trousers(3), warm lowers(2), balaclava(1), woolen cap(2), sunscreen cream, lip balm, sunglasses(UVprotected), trekking pole.
You need trekking shoes of high ankle support with good gripping soles. You can buy climbing shoes if you want to continue climbing in future, yet climbing shoes are expensive but we will provide you Scarpa climbing shoes for this climbing.
Vegetarian food with eggs is provided during the trek. Vegetarian food is easy to digest and gives adequate amount of energy and nutrition. Your food schedule will start from healthy breakfast to packed lunch, evening snacks and tea, soup and ends with the delicious dinner. Yes, you have to bring your lunch box along with you, in which you can take your packed lunch.
It is absolutely safe to drink water directly from any Himalayan stream. One can ask about filling water to the instructors or guides, if anyone is unsure to drink water from these natural sources he/she can bring chlorine tablets along with them. But we recommend one to drink this torrent water inevitably, which is full of minerals and is good to pace up the acclimatization.
The weight carried by an individual depends on his/her requirements during the climbing. He/ she can opt things which are requisite. The weight will be 15-20 kg’s. or may vary as per the things carried.
The average trekking distance each day will be 7-9 km’s which will take 4-5 hours to complete. The overall distance is usually covered by the afternoon.
Professional certified guides/instructors will lead, who are best at their job and have adequate experience of high altitude trekking and giving first aid in the Himalayas. They will be leading and escorting you until the trek reaches to its point of ending. Our staff will also be there accompanying the group with all necessary support en route.
We take group of 2 persons to multiple no. of persons with men and women.
We have tents of 3 men/4 men capacity. The group will be accommodated with 2 persons in 3 men tent, and 3 persons in 4 men tent or as according to the requirements of the moment. The girls are facilitated with tents only sharing with another girl. If there is a single girl, she would be given her personal tent.
There will be toilets at each campsite pitched near to the camp. These toilets are sustainable with deep pit inside to answer nature’s call and along to it there will be a mound of soil to cover your organic waste. Do remind to use only tissue papers, refrain yourself using wet wipes as this thing is non degradable.
No, the network is inconsistent during the trek. If you have to make any calls please do them before leaving for the expedition.
Yes, you can carry medicines. It is good to carry some basic medicines to avoid chances of sickness on high altitude trekking. For this we have list of some medicines written below: Crepe bandage (3-5 m), Band aid (10 strips), cotton (1 roll), ORS (4-5pk), Volini spray, providine, Crocin tablets, Avomine, Combiflam, Disprin, Digene, Spasimonil, Diamox, Electoral. If you have any other problems please consult your doctor that you can take part on this trek and bring all your medicines along. Yes, one has to bring a medical certificate certified by a recognized Doctor deeming that he/she is fit and has no health related problems. If you have any prior illnesses please consult your doctor about the trek and bring all requisite medications.
You have to carry an ID proof and a certified medical document.
You can relieve your backpack to a pony /porter. For offloading you have to tell us 10 days earlier and weight should not exceed 12 kg’s which will cost 1000/- per day. But we recommend one to carry his sack by himself. After all one has to be self relied while adventuring in the mighty Himalayas.
No, you cannot have liquor or smoke on this expedition. Consuming liquor and smoking makes one prone to the dehydration, which is the main cause of illness at the high altitudes. So avoid using such things and enjoy doing expedition in the lap of Himalayas.
In any case of any emergency our staff is skilled and trained for such situations held at high altitude. Our team has a wealth of experience dealing with high altitude sicknesses and urgent situations. We carry first aid kit and oxygen cylinders with us and in any emergency we rescue the trekker till the road head. After reaching road any additional cost of evacuation is borne by the trekker. All and all it is trekker’s responsibility to get a certified medical fitness document before coming for the trek, which certifies that the trekker is fit for the trek.
No, but our team has ample knowledge of providing first aid in boondocks and are aware of high altitude problems and situations. Our team carries whole range of first aid kit and necessary medicines to avoid any distress/mishap.
