Itinerary

Trek Schedule: 

Day 1: Reporting Manali. (1800m)

Reporting – Acclimatization – Orientation & Briefing of the trek – Trek Preparation & window shopping

(Sufficient time would be given for visiting market and nearby places)

Day 02: Manali – Kaza (3900m.) (282 km.8 hrs drive.)

Day 03: Kaza – Kibber (4205 m) — Dumla (4260m) (18km/5hrs).

Day 04: Dumla – Thaltak Meadow (4875m.) (7kms/5hrs).

Day 05: Thaltak – Jagtha – Bongrojen (5180m.) (14kms/7hrs).

Day 06: Bongrojen – Parang la – Dak Karzong (4940m.) (10 kms/5hrs).

Day 07: Dak Karzong – Datang Yongma (4725m.) (12kms/5hrs).

Day 08: Datang Yongma – Chumik Shilde (4300m.)(16kms/5-6 hrs).

Day 09: Chumik Shilde – Tso Moriri (4450m.) (14kms/5hrs).

Day 10: Tso Moriri – Karzog (4527m.) (15 kms/6-7hrs).

Day 11: Karzog – Leh (213 kms/8-9 hrs).

Day 12: After breakfast group breakup.

Things to Pack: Rucksack, cotton clothes, good trekking shoes, a warm jacket, Gloves, warmer, woolen or monkey cap covering head and ears, UV rays protected sunglasses, raincoat, extra socks, water bottle, torch, cold cream, sunscreen, toilet soap, towel, Walking Stick and medicines that you usually use.

FAQs
Parang La pass trek starts from Kibber/Chichacm in Lahoul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh. Trek basis is 182km. far from Manali. One can club a taxi from Manali to Kaza, which takes about 8-10 hr. to reach the basis.
The Parang La Pass trek is an arduous trek reaching to an altitude of 18,000ft. So the trek demands great level of physical fitness and prior experience indeed. This trek is done in the most remote regions of the country; where one could distress by the harshest conditions if he/she has have not done previous trekking above 3000m.
As this trek is a strenuous and multi day trek, it requires good physical fitness. To achieve the benchmark one has to prepare a month before the trek starts. One should run everyday 5-10km. do pushups, play outdoor/indoor games, cycling and do yoga to get the adequate strength.
The best time to trek Parang La starts from the end of June to mid September. Rest of the year the roads remain closed or inconsistent due to weather conditions.

As this trek is difficult one so age matters a lot, so age starts from 18yr to 60yrs. But elderly and kid participants should be accompanied by some their relatives/friends during the trek.
The decent trekking shoes with waterproof, good gripping soles will be perfect for this trek. Avoid bringing sports shoes because it will not grip on extreme terrains. You have to buy any trekking shoe a week before to get comfortable with the fittings and not getting any kind of blisters or sores while on the trek. Buy high ankle support shoes that will help trekking on the slants. Buy one size larger than your regular size so you will feel comfortable after wearing multiple layers of socks during the cold.
The trek is located in the cold deserts of India, in Spiti, where rain fall is very less but snows even in the summer at significant heights. The weather remains reasonable during the trekking seasons with temperature rising up to 15-18 degrees at daytime and cold nights plunging down to –degrees.
The trek will be lead by the certified professional instructors/guides from Himalaya Destination. Our staff is well qualified and has ample knowledge of dealing with wilderness emergencies and giving first aid at distant places. The staff will always be there to ensure your safety and security.
We take the groups consisting of 3-20 people at a time with mixed of men and women.
You have to carry 10-12 kg of weight. It depends on your requirements and capacity that how much clothing, dry fruits or ready made edible things you carry.
Yes, you can hire a porter or a mule to offload backpack. But you have to intimate us 10-15 days before the trek. We will arrange porter or mule accordingly and it will cost you 1000/-rupees per day and weight should not exceed above 12 kg’s.
We have 3 men, 4 men tents but it depends on the no. of participants trekking. But we will accommodate you with 2 persons each in a tent.
The average trekking distance is about 10-12 km per day which will take 5-6 hours a day. Enjoy trekking on route don’t get discouraged.
Nutritious vegetarian food is provided during the trek. You will be having breakfast, lunch, tea, evening snacks, soup and dinner. Vegetarian food is easy to digest and is healthy at high altitudes. In addition to it coffee and hot drinks soups will also be served. You have to carry a lunch box to eat afternoon meal at your ease in between the trek.
Yes, toilets will be provided for both of the genders. These toilets are eco friendly with a deep pit dug inside to do the business and a heap of soil alongside to cover the organic waste. Use only degradable tissues, refrain using wet wipes.
Mountain water is natural source of drinking water and is full of minerals. Thousands of people living in the mountains rely on the water coming down from the glaciers. One can drink water directly from the streams en route while trekking or one can ask guide or instructors, from where they can fill water. If someone is unsure one can carry chlorine tablets along with them. But we recommend this water for drinking as it makes acclimatization faster.
Yes, you can carry medicines. It is good to carry some basic medicines to avoid chances of sickness on high altitude trekking. For this we have list of some medicines written below: Crepe bandage (3-5 m), Band aid (10 strips), cotton (1 roll), ORS (4-5pk), Volini spray, providine, Crocin tablets, Avomine, Combiflam, Disprin, Digene, Spasimonil, Diamox, anti diarrhea tablets,Electoral , toiletries etc . Yes you have to bring a medical document certified by a recognized Doctor, deeming that you are fir for the trek. If you are taking any prior medications/or having any health related issues, please consult your doctor about the trek.
Yes, the girls are safe with us on this trek. We had run prior treks consisting of men and women successfully. To ensure female safety and security we choose our staff carefully who are reliable, responsible and will escort girls and the group till the end of the trek with honesty. We generally make a point that only female trekkers would share the tent with other female. Only thing is advisable to take care of your belongings and try to trek along the group.
One can charge and make calls until one is in the city, town or in the village. On this trek the signal is merely found in the little town at Kibber/Chicham. Therefore it is impossible to make calls by mobile networks yet there are few satellite phones in the villages, from where one can do urgent calls. And for charging purposes one should carry power bank with himself because after the last village there is no electricity.
No, alcohol is strictly not allowed during the trek, it dehydrates and weakens the body. This kind of self created ailing would cost a irrelevant experience of distress and fatigue instead of enjoying the trek.
Yes, you can customize the trek to your convenience. You can choose any trek options, time and no. of people to participate. The cost for customized trip or trek would be fixed on the basis of group size, trekking area, duration and trek style.
No, but our team has ample knowledge of providing wilderness first aid and are aware of high altitude problems/situations. Our team carries whole first aid kit, Portal Oxygen and necessary medicines.
In any case of any emergency our staff is skilled and trained for such situations held at high altitude. Our team has a wealth of experience dealing with high altitude sicknesses and urgent situations. We carry first aid kit and oxygen cylinders with us and in any emergency we rescue the trekker till the road head. After reaching road any additional cost of evacuation is borne by the trekker. All and all it is trekkers responsibility to get a certified medical fitness document before coming for the trek, which certifies that the trekker is fit for the trek.
Diamox is useful refraining high altitude ailments but one should consult the doctor that he/she can take it or not. We, Himalaya Destination never recommend taking Diamox, we believe in acclimatizing naturally.
Yes, you have to bring personal ID (ADHAAR/Voters ID/DL) and a medical document certified by a recognized doctor.
